What does Self reliance mean for other fields? How can we have Self Reliant India / Atma Nirbhar Bharat?

In every sphere of life, we are relying on many products and services for consumption. As per the speech on Lockdown 4.0 given by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, establishment of medium, small and medium enterprise development is a point of convergence inorder to attain the basic needs of survival for common Indians. Prime Minister Modi’s ambitious project of turning our country into Atma Nirbhar Bharat or self reliant India to minimise the dependence on foreign economy and brands is needed to bring thorough development of certain industries that can further strengthen Indian economy or make Atma Nirbhar Bharat. These industries are highlighted as follows:

1) Indian Agriculture
Rise in the exports of agricultural products has made India as one of the leading farm producers of the world. It has been almost a century since India has been witnessing the growth of agro based industries like Dupont India, Rallies India Limited, Nuziveedu Seeds Limited, Lemken India Agro Equipments Private Limited. These industries have been fulfilling the demand of insecticides and pesticides for the protection of the crops and also the seeds and ploughing equipment for farming activities. In order to strengthen the concept of self reliant India, zero budget farming offers the opportunity to the farmers to capitalize on using the natural fertilizers derived from animal waste and herbal juices. It is a natural farming which is known as rishi kheti which traces back to the vedic period of Ancient India. Self reliant farmers shall have to spend less on seeds and fertilizers and have more disposable income.

2) Ayurvedic Health
For thousands of years, people in India have been relying on ayurvedic products for the treatment of acute or minor health problems. Portrayal of self reliant India or Atma Nirbhar Bharat has been done a long time back. In this contemporary period also, people are steadily turning their minds towards Ayurvedic brands for cosmetic or medical reasons. Ayurvedic practices like Shirodhara as well will gain prominence for holistic well being.

3) Indian Culture
The term “ Sa Prathama Sanskrati Vishvavara'' has been expressed by numerous international organizations of the world. Showcasing the elements of Indian culture is the need of the hour to bring a sense of optimism and cohesiveness in the current situation of pandemic. Ahimsa, unity in diversity, yoga, ayurveda, spiritual path , vasudeva kutumbakam, atithi devo bhava and the sufi culture are basic Indian values already making waves across the globe by preaching the message of peace and harmony. These priceless values ushers us to make our country as self reliant India or Atma Nirbhar Bharat. In this sense we can look at self reliance as self confidence on our cultural values

4) Indian Food Brands:
There have been different food brands in the Indian market which have been showing their dominance not only in Indian market but also established their marketing links in the foreign shores as well. Such Indian brands manufacture quality based food items in terms of taste and nutrition of International standards. These brands are Haldiram, Bikaner Namkeen, Mother Dairy Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd and KRBL Private Limited( world’s leading exporter of Basmati rice), Frooti, Appy, Rasna and RC cola.

5) Indian Handloom and Handicrafts
Image of Atma Nirbhar Bharat or self-reliant India is projected by the wonderful handiwork of the craftsmen for many centuries. India has already achieved major share in the world market by promoting the handloom and handicraft items. There is a huge demand for Handloom items in the form of embroidered , dyed , printed and hand woven khadder items in different parts of India eg Kanchipuram sarees, Chintas of Machilipatnam, Patola sarees of Baroda, Muga silk of Assam etc. Even the fashion industry will evolve to cater to the new demand for handlooms in India. Since ancient times certain hand paintings like Thangka and Mandalas are believed to be excellent in generating good luck and also serve as therapy for better health conditions.
